No need for surgery—chemists from Stanford University have come up with a way to map the brain using carbon nanotubes and lasers, Stanford News reports. The researchers injected the water-soluble nanotubes into a mouse’s bloodstream and shined a light on its skull. The light prompted the nanotubes to fluoresce, enabling the researchers to track the blood vessels through its brain. Although the system is designed for mice, the team hopes to eventually use its technology to study strokes and migraines in humans.
